WHAT TO DO IN LABUAN BAJO
If you haven't already heard of Labuan Bajo, it is a small fishing town at the western end of Flores, just an hour away by plane from Bali. Some have labeled Labuan Bajo as a go-to place if you're looking for white/pink secluded beaches and if you're looking to get away from the crowd. It was our first time to hear of Labuan Bajo when we partnered with Sky Scanner for this trip and to be honest, it's a place beyond expectation, and here are the things you can do when you visit Labuan Bajo:
GO ISLAND HOPPING
There are many islands to visit from Labuan Bajo such as Padar Island, Komodo National Park and Pink Beach which we will get into in the coming blog posts.
The resort we stayed in before we took off Island Hopping was Sylvia Resort, and it has an amazing quiet white sand beach with calm waters and for a better view of the island, you may take a small path up a viewing deck to see the whole beach.
EXPERIENCE CULTURE AT MELO VILLAGE
The 'Caci' dance is known as the traditional whip fight that is performed by the Manggarai people during the Penti, which is a festival that marks the beginning of a new harvest year, but you can experience this all by visiting the Melo village which is 14km away from Labuan Bajo.
As you enter their village, the Manggarai people will welcome you with music and dancing, and slowly you will enter their house. They will offer you sopi, their traditional palm wine before watching and joining the Caci performance.
VISIT OR STAY AT LE PIRATE BEACH CLUB
Le Pirate Beach Club in Labuan Bajo is a quaint hotel that is situated near the Labuan Bajo Port, and is also around many restaurants and tour offices. The rooms consist of small cottages that have a choice of twin beds, bunk beds or a Family Room that has 4 beds. There is a small restaurant and bar on the ground floor, and a rooftop bar with a small pool on the deck. If you're into staying in at night, Le Pirate also has Movie Night where you can watch their selected movie under the stars.
HIKE TO SEE CUNCA WATERFALL
Just 35km away from Labuan Bajo is Cunca Waterfall (pronounced Choon-Cha), hidden in the luscious forest, you will have to hike for 30 minutes to 1-hour before you can get to the destination. The waterfall cannot be seen unless you swim across to the cliffs beside the waterfall itself, but seeing the water from the very tip of the falls is also an amazing experience.
HAVE AN AMAZING SUNSET DINNER
Just 15 minutes away from the Labuan Bajo City Proper, is Atlantis Beach Club where we had our amazing Sunset Dinner and Cocktails by the beach. Surprisingly enough, we were also dining under the Milky Way.
